Jamaica Symphony Orchestra for Conference 2011

The Jamaica Symphony Orchestra (JSO) is currently the only symphony orchestra in the world with five equal sections and a unique Caribbean sound.  While the typical symphony orchestra has only four sections:  Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion; the JSO is unique in that it includes the steel pan, which originated in Trinidad and Tobago, as a fifth and equal section of the orchestra.  This inclusion of a steel pan section distinguishes us from other symphony orchestras and creates our unique Caribbean sound.   The orchestra recently performed at the World Travel Award and was the highlight of the evening.

The orchestra was founded in Jamaica in September 2008 by American Violinist, Dr. Lisa Walker, a former US Fulbright Professor with over twenty years of international experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician in North America, Central America, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and the Caribbean.
