Jamaica Stock Exchange’s New Chairman

(KINGSTON, July 16, 2014): The Jamaica Stock Exchange at its Board Meeting held at its Head Office, 40 Harbour Street, Kingston on July 16 2014 elected a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman. Mr. Allan Lewis, Senior Vice President Victoria Mutual Group was elected as the new Chairman of the JSE Board and Mr. Ian McNaughton, Managing Director, Barita Investments Ltd. was elected Deputy Chairman.

At the 37th Annual General Meeting of the JSE, held on June 19, 2014 Mr. Donovan Perkins, the then Chairman of the Stock Exchange had indicated to the shareholders that he was stepping down as the Chairman of the Company, due to the fact that he has been appointed as the CEO of the newly acquired RBC Bank by his company Sagicor Group Jamaica Ltd. This means that he would not be able to give the attention needed as Chairman of the Stock Exchange’s Board. Mr. Perkins remains a Director of the Exchange.

Mrs. Marlene Street Forrest, General Manager of the JSE, in welcoming the Chairman Mr. Allen Lewis to his new position said, “the JSE management and staff are looking forward to working with our new Chairman to realize the objectives set for the 2014/15 period and beyond”. “Mrs. Street Forrest indicated that these include the following:

  • Continuing the rationalization and control of expenditure;
  • Collaborating with the Government and other entities to advance the Stock Exchange;
  • Pursuing global reach Providing a reasonable returns to shareholders.

The incoming Chairman Mr. Allan Lewis, who is the Senior Vice President, Strategy at the Victoria Mutual Group a position he holds for the past seven years, said, “I am delighted to have been chosen as the Chairman of the JSE by my fellow Board members”. He thanked them for the confidence that they placed in him and resolved to serve the JSE with distinction.
