The inaugural Jamaica Stock Exchange Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Workshop will be held on July 14th and 15th, 2022 and commences at 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event will take place virtually and is FREE for all to attend.
This workshop is a collaborative event with the Government of Dominica and seeks to engage relevant financial market stakeholders on ESG issues and their importance for financial institutions and investors in the Caribbean, with special attention to the concepts and opportunities related to green bonds in the region.
The JSE acknowledges that ESG analysis has become an increasingly important part of the investment process in financial markets across the world. Since the launch of the Green Bond Project in 2021, we have been collaborating with several key partners on the development of an ESG framework to be implemented in our own market. This framework will support the introduction of ESG reporting standards as well as form a basis for the rollout of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-related financial instruments in the market, for example green bonds.
As we approach the end of Phase I of the Green Bond Project, which involved a targeted assessment of the debt capital market in Jamaica as well as the wider Caribbean, this workshop will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the opportunities for sustainable growth in our financial markets.
Based on lessons learned from the Project, the JSE will provide the following to Dominica:-
- Mentorship support to assisting with bond market development.
- Technical assistance for the preparation of green bond financing and;
- Facilitate the incorporation of such financing in the local financial ecosystem in support of upstream and downstream geothermal development.
We believe that organization’s contribution to the discussion will be integral to the successful implementation of this ESG framework and anticipate everyone’s participation in this workshop, as we strive to build a more resilient and sustainable Jamaican economy.
